Parish Council – November Report

The Autumn Village Tidy took place on the sunny morning of Saturday 1 November. Villagers cleared the steps up to the playing fields, the pavement edges, and the area in the trees on the edge of the playing field. The outside of the Village Hall windows were cleaned and are now sparkling. Vegetation around the Bus Shelter at the Ilminster end of the village has been cut back to protect the shelter and litter inside and around the shelter has been tidied up. Villagers scraped off the existing paint on the railings around the War Memorial, and the front railings were painted in advance of Remembrance Day, we’ll finish this job soon. Our next Village Tidy will be in May next year, watch out the date nearer the time.

Our thanks go to Gary Wright who has created beautiful frames for the Remembrance wreaths to be placed in at the War Memorial to prevent them being blown away.

Village councillors attended a Community Resilience Day organised by Somerset Council which covered various aspects and ideas for improving emergency preparedness in our village. The Parish Council will now be working to update our Emergency Plan and to work on various projects to help our community be better equipped to respond to emergencies if/when they happen.

Reports in the village of Anti-Social Behaviour have been actioned with our local PCSO.  If anyone experiences further problems, please report these via 101.

Remember, the Village Neighbourhood Plan, including supporting documents is now on display at the Village Hall (in the committee room) for public inspection. Please go along and have a look at these documents as a local referendum will be held, where parish residents vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to adopting the plan.
