At our meeting on Wednesday 9 September, we discussed progress with obtaining a new defibrillator to be located in the porch at the Village Hall, and the project to install Solar Panels at the Village Hall. The Speed indicator is now installed, and the data from it will show us how many cars are exceeding the speed limit. Councillors will be attending the Community Resilience Day in October to get ideas on how to keep our community safe with the possibility of worsening wet weather this winter.
We have carried out a drain survey which found the most blocked drains in the village are still blocked after the drain clearers have done their work! and the drains which have disappeared under verge vegetation are still under the verge. We will be liaising with the Council to get these cleared/found to keep winter flooding to a minimum. We will be launching our ‘Adopt a Drain’ project later in the Autumn, once the leaves have fallen.
Over the next few months, we will be working on cleaning our war memorial to make sure the names are still visible and to carry out any repairs required.
In July Councillors attended a meeting about the provision of superfast broadband to rural Somerset including Hatch Beauchamp. The information provided was not particularly helpful but subsequently one provider has approached the Parish Council, and we hope they will attend our next meeting in November. Meanwhile we have just heard that most if not all the village will be connected to fibre broadband by Wessex Internet. The full planning permission for the site at the Orchard in Station Road, including Affordable Housing, has now been granted. This does not mean the development will begin immediately, they have three years to start building.
