The Neighbourhood Plan has finally been given the green light by Somerset Council. One of the key areas of concern that come out of the original survey was the residents desire to reduce the speeding traffic through the village of Hatch Beauchamp. The Parish Council looked at the legal options available and Speed Indicator Devices (SID) appeared to be popular with several of the neighbouring villages. However, please let us know in the survey if you have alternative traffic calming measures that we should consider.
The option that Hatch Beauchamp Parish Council are considering is a solar powered mobile SID that automatically collates information on traffic flows and speeds but does not take photographs. The idea would be to have multiple sites throughout the village where the SID could be situated and to move it around on a periodic basis.
There are costs to be considered. There is, of course, the cost of the SID, the solar panel, batteries and the installation of the posts upon which the device will be positioned. The overall cost is about £6500 which is affordable but a significant proportion of the Parish Council’s funds. As such, the council need to hear your feedback on whether or not to approve this level of spending and, if it is agreed, the locations of the potential sites to be considered.

Just wondering the cost of speed bumps? Guess more than the SID?
I’m uncertain that speeding is a particular problem but, if it is, the better consideration might be a 20 miles per hour limit through most of Station Road and Village Road or do the Highway Authority’s guidelines mitigate against that?
